Every Friday I feature a reader comment from earlier in the week. Today’s comment comes from Sara Barnhill, who owns Stunning and Brilliant Events. (That’s one of Sara’s beautiful brides above!)
Sara responded to Monday’s post about how to make money in the event industry. Here’s an excerpt of what she had to say:
“My husband works in sales and has helped me the most with closing. He says to be ABC: Always Be Closing! … Just the other day I was at lunch with a former client and was sitting next to a girl who had just gotten engaged and was talking about her big day and how she wasn’t sure where to start.
“[I said] ‘I didn’t mean to overhear your conversation, but congrats on your engagement. I’m an event planner in the area. Give me a call. Let’s talk about your wedding!’ … And now I am planning her spring 2013 wedding! That really is how to make money in the business; it’s always when you least expect it! Just like my husband says, ‘Always Be Closing.’”
I love the idea of “Always Be Closing,” and I love this story. Way to go, Sara! It’s true; you should ALWAYS be on the lookout for new clients. You never know when a possible job might cross your path, but when it does, you better grab it! If you don’t — someone else surely will.
Dear Readers, do you practice ABC? Have you ever stumbled across a job like Sara did? Did you grab it? Please share your story in the comments!
Happy Friday, folks. Have a great weekend.
