I’ve been traveling for the last two weeks, but, coming home, I can see the first signs of spring here in New York. Spring is a time of renewal and blossoming for both ourselves and for Mother Nature. And that includes flowers, my great love! So, I’ve decided to devote this week’s blog posts to flowers.

To kick things off, let’s discuss popular flowers. Below are the three types of flowers my brides most frequently request:

1. Peonies: Brides used to be all about roses, but these days they love the gorgeous and fluffy peony. Many of my brides also prefer white peonies to pink ones.

2. Phalaenopsis Orchids: This beautiful orchid has become widely popular both in white and pink hues. They used to be very expensive, but, fortunately, these orchids are now much more reasonably priced.

3. Roses: The rose has long been considered the most romantic flower. She’s also been long overexposed, and, consequently, more and more of my brides are choosing to use roses sparingly — or not at all. This is very sad, because there are some amazing new rose varieties that rival the beauty of any peony!

Tomorrow, of course, is my weekly Dear Preston column, but on Wednesday I’ll return to the topic of florals and share the three flowers my brides never want to use.

Dear Readers (including florists, bakers, planners, and designers), which flowers do your brides request the most? I’m so curious! Please share.
