Visiting The Great Wall Of China

Such a wonderful trip!

Dear Readers,

As you know, I am currently in Sanya for a speaking event  with IdoIdo.  Yesterday, I decided to take a trip to The Great Wall of China and was amazed at how breathtaking it was!  Not to mention, the snow brought new meaning to the phrase “winter wonderland”!  I truly love China, and the people, food, culture, and the folks at IdoIdo have all made this visit a spectacular one.  In honor of my visit, I thought I might share a few fun facts about the incredible landmark I had visited earlier in the week!

The wall is one of the 7 Wonders of The World.

The actual length of the wall is tough to estimate (thanks to so many dynasties adding to it) but it is estimated  the wall is over 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500 miles) long.

According to ancient documents, over 800,000 people worked to construct the wall (300,000 of which were soldiers).

I was told there is a saying in China “不到长城非好汉” (pinyin: bú dào chángchéng fēi hǎohàn).  The rough translation is “you’re not a real man if you haven’t climbed the Great Wall.” High expectations!

The wall is over 2,300 years old!  And it looks good for its age!

Blessings from China,

Preston
