Dear Readers:
I cannot thank you enough for all of the amazing ideas and inspirations for the designs you gave me yesterday. Suffice it to say that you gave me a lot of food for thought. Today, I would like to ask for your help with outfit selection as Theo and I are in the process of deciding what to wear. At one point, we thought that perhaps one of us should marry in a black tuxedo and another in white. When I mentioned this idea to a friend, she asked what I found to be a very offensive question. ”Well, who is the man and who is the woman in your couple?” I was shocked and considered removing her from my guest list for asking such a stupid question (I still might). The issue with same-sex marriages is that they are so recent that we have not yet established a tradition by way of wedding attire.
One of my good friends is the brilliant wedding and clothing designer, Reem Acra. Thankfully, Reem has graciously offered to help us with our wedding wear. What I love about Reem is that she understands the delicate balance between elegance and cutting-edge. Theo and I are meeting with her tailor this afternoon, and I am keenly aware of the importance of choosing something timeless. I always caution my couples to carefully select what they will wear on their big day as no one wants to look back at their photos in 20 years time and say, “What in the world was I thinking?”
Keeping in mind that our wedding is an evening wedding, what do you think we should wear. Do you think same-sex couples should start and stick with a black-and-white tradition?
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Preston
