Dear Readers:

Being in the industry for 33 years, I have had the pleasure of watching many blossom. Much of the boom has come by way of the significant growth of the entertainment market. Over the past three decades, invitations have gone from standard cards and paper to small works of art that guests now often keep. I have also watched favors, linens, lighting and other sub-industries develop their work into what can only be defined as true artistry.

Today, I would like to discuss a completely new art form: Draping. As many of you might have read in today’s AMNY, my wedding is being held at The Empire State Building, an iconic building that has some of the most gorgeous views of the city, but no event space. We were given an empty floor that could be used to create our fantasy wedding. I was thrilled, and immediately turned to my very talented friends, Gio and Raul of Gio Draping Events. They graciously offered to help us turn the space into the backdrop of our dreams and we have began working on several draping jobs (transforming the space with fabric). To get an idea of what can be done with draping, please take a look at the photos above.

Draping is an art form, especially when it comes to concealing tents. It’s an invaluable tool that always helps me with transformations. I turned to Gio and Raul specifically because they are brilliant artists who have mastered this technique and have become the go-to designers in this niche market, most especially in the wedding and event industry.
