Dear Readers:
This afternoon, many of you know of my deep respect and gratitude for my talented friend, Darren Olarsch, President of On the Move Entertainment and Events. I always ask Darren to DJ my events, quite simply, because he is the best. A loyal friend, Darren always goes beyond the call of duty and my wedding was no exception. I always say you know your party was a success when no one wants to leave, and Darren kept our guests dancing until the wee hours of morning.
Thank you so much for being a part of our special day. How did you feel about everything overall?
The wedding was perfect. A great escape from the ordinary for sure. Not just because of the timing starting at midnight, but because of the energy in the room. I think all the guests expected the unexpected and they got that and more!
You are a leader in the industry, how long have you been in the business?
Thank you, Preston. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year!
What quality, separates you from the rest?
We are so blessed to work so often with icons of the industry on a regular basis. So I think that when you’re able to hone your craft, party by party, by collaborating with the planners, designers, and influencers such as yourself, it only makes our performances that much better than your average entertainment company.
How do you feel the industry is changing?
I think the industry has changed by becoming much more “last minute”. It used to be some of our more extravagant events were booked years, if not many months ahead of time. It seems more and more that we are pulling together complex and fascinating events practically overnight sometimes.
What’s the most valuable piece of advice you’ve received in your career?
Don’t let ‘em see you sweat. I learned that many years ago and it’s helped. We work under tremendous pressures sometimes, and if your clients see you relaxed and in control, then they feel like they are in good hands. Even when there’s no power 5 minutes before showtime!
What would you tell someone who wants to achieve your success?
Pay your dues. Nothing comes without hard work and hard times. You can’t expect things to be handed to you, and you can’t expect things to happen over night.
Give us a quick view of  how your clients respond to your pricing?
To some clients, mostly those that have seen us in action, our pricing doesn’t seem to phase them, because they know you have to pay a little more to get the best. To other clients, who may not be familiar with our body of work, our pricing may give them a little sticker shock at first.
How did you feel about the way we incorporated your expertise in the wedding?
Perfectly. You gave the ultimate control to the professionals that you know will always come through. From Marcy’s overall planning, to Ira’s lighting, to GP’s delicious food, you knew you were in good hands and you let us do our thing. And it was magic!
Where can readers find out more about your work (website)?
Our website has a lot of information and we encourage everyone to join the conversation onTwitter @onthemoveevents.
What was the most unexpected part of the evening for you?
I honestly thought that some guests may have the wind knocked out of their sails by 2am. But the place was rocking way later than that, and that was a pleasant unexpected bonus.
Thank you so much, Darren.
