Dear Readers:
As you may or may not be aware, I currently have five coffee table books on the market–Design for entertainment, Fantasy Weddings, Inspiration, Celebration, and PB flowers. I am happy to announce that I am presently in the process of creating a sixth, Floral and Event Design, which will be out next spring. As much as I enjoy sharing the designs that have proven to be successful, I am the first to admit that the road from design to execution has not always been without setbacks–or outright failures.
Still, as Albert Eistein once said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
Today, I would like to share with you a design I did over twenty years ago. Now, when I put it together, I thought it was amazing, but looking at it now, I can see more than a few things that I could have done much better. This is not simply because it now looks dated, but more because, as a designer, I see a number of elements that could have been put together differently. In the spirit of embracing constructive criticism, I thought it might be nice for me to go first and ask you where you think I went wrong. What do you feel I could have done better?
Lastly, I want to remind you that we all make mistakes and are constantly growing, learning, and developing. To try and be “perfect” is a waste of time, but to work towards authenticity and being the best designer or planner you can be on a daily basis is the truest path to success.
