Dear Readers:
One of the advantages of living in New York is getting to experience the holiday rush that seems to take over the city just right after Thanksgiving. With crisp air, music playing and lights flickering, it’s hard not to get into the romantic holiday mood. As a designer, one of the biggest treats is having the opportunity to see the different ways other designers interpret the season. Of course, one of the most documented ways to experience this is to stop by and see the “windows”. Of course, the sneak-peek begins at Bergdorf Goodman. Arguably, the most famous department store (and windows) in the world, the unveiling is an event and this year the store did not disappoint. With men and women climbing up (and jumping from!) the side of the store, crowds consisting of hundreds of onlookers found themselves gasping before and after the windows were revealed. This year, Senior Director of Visual Presentation, David Hoey, chose to play on the holiday theme by paying homage to a number of holidays on the yearly calendar and placing all of them on ice. I thought it might be nice to share some of these with all of you and ask which one is your most and least favorite.
Blessings,
Preston
