Dear Readers,
Happy Friday!
I hope all of you in the States had a warm and wonderful holiday and that those of you in other parts of the world are winding down a productive week. As some of you may know, I like to end the week by highlighting different artists and installations that have moved me in some way. Today, I would like to share the work of one of Africa’s most celebrated sculptors, El Anatsui. The Ghana-born artist is best known for hanging sculptures mostly consisting of aluminum caps and liquor bottle seals. As an artist myself, I have a deep appreciation of using unexpected materials to create beautiful and meaningful art that moves those who view it. I love the mixture of creation, provocation, raw beauty and sensory stimulation that is found in wonderful sculptures, paintings, movements, installations and designs, don’t you?
Please take a look at El Anatsui’s shimmering “cloth” of metal which was displayed both in Venice and New York. Tell us what you think.
Blessings,
Preston
