Dear Readers,
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has just opened a new Andy Warhol exhibit titled, “Regarding Warhol: Sixty Artists, Fifty Years.” The exhibition consists of five sections: “Daily News: From Banality to Disaster,” “Portraiture: Celebrity and Power,” “Queer Studies: Shifting Identities,” “Consuming Images: Appropriation, Abstraction, and Seriality,” and finally, “No Boundaries: Business, Collaboration, and Spectacle.” The last one interests me very much as it is a fantastic representation of what we, as artists, have the opportunity to do for ourselves and our clients each and every day.
As many of you know, I do my very best to move past designing a space to creating a real event for my clients. I want guests at my events to feel they have been transported into a different space and given the opportunity to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. The fifth section of the exhibit, No Boundaries, offers a visual example of this ideology through the use of Warhol’s decorative motifs. Of course, I love the fact that these are mostly flowers.
Whether you are a fan or critic of the artist, one cannot deny the influence his choosing to take risks had on the artistic world and his clients. This kind of success and influence was made possible only because he was willing to risk judgment in order to go the extra mile to inspire, influence, and host his clients in a way that made them feel that they were experiencing something more than just a design; they were experiencing a moment.
What Risks Are You Willing To Take To Reward Your Clients?
I look forward to reading your responses.
Blessings,
Preston
