Dear Readers:

Anyone who is in the planning business knows that there are a lot of layers to the job.  In addition to the pretty and the perks, we have a responsibility to our clients to not only listen to them, but to also process what they are saying and then to work with them to make sound decisions throughout the planning process.  For me, this is a part of the job that I enjoy and thrive on.

While we all have days that we want to throw in the proverbial towel (does anyone in any profession not have those days?) these tough times should never be taken as anything but an opportunity to become a better, wiser and more polished professional.  To take these moments as “signs” we are not cut out for the job would be to think like a quitter. Besides, as Malcom Gladwell stated, it takes “10,000 hours to become an expert.” Stick to it.

The truth is, approaching every client with an open mind, a happy heart and dedication to doing the best thing for them every time, all of the time is the key to success in this business. Follow that mantra and everything else will fall into place in time.

If you are wondering if this is your calling, take a look at these Six Signs You’re Right For Planning and see where you stand.

I. You see your job and all of the responsibilities assigned to it as an honorable position to be in, and not a duty.

II. You are not only passionate, but committed.  It’s nearly impossible for you to envision yourself doing anything else. Your mind and heart are in sync and completely engaged and your role feels natural to you.

III. It does not feel like “Work”.  You have created a life for yourself and that life includes your job, but there is a synergy between them, and work does feel like “play” a lot of the time.  You are in a constant state of curiosity and see yourself as a perpetual student of the industry.  You enjoy the effort that it takes to polish your craft and skillset.

IV. You are willing to do what it takes to add value.  Though the days can be long, you find yourself incessantly inspired and looking forward to working the next day.  You feel fulfilled at the end of the day.

V. You don’t mind the “Crazy” aspects of the job. Chaos doesn’t concern you because you have an innate ability to create calm; you approach every aspect of planning with common sense.

VI. Family, Friends, and Routines are part of you. Although your work is part of your lifestyle you have managed to keep your personal life intact and healthy. You’ve managed to turn your experiences, travels, demanding schedules, and routines into assets and not obstacles. You’ve even gone as far as developing relationships with your brides that have remained way after you have guided them down the aisle. Some of them will now be part of your life forever!
