Dear Readers:

We are all unique.

It’s a phrase we hear thrown out often, though as artists, it sometimes feels as though everyone wants us to conform. I cannot tell you how many times I have been asked to do what has been done, sometimes exactly, and other times with a small twist.

While making clients happy is always my number-one goal, I know, for me, having the ability to understand the goals and needs of my clients and channel them into fresh designs is one of the things I love most about being a designer.

Having been in this business for over three decades, I have seen trends come and go, and even enjoyed the benefits of setting a few myself. I have also felt the cool chill of an atmospheric turn, but when I started in this business, I made a decision that I would go for my dreams but only as the most authentic version of myself, come what may. I know my designs are too over-the-top for some, but I have never been out to monopolize the market. I have always believed there is enough business for all of us, and that having different designers with different ideas and viewpoints is the best possible situation for a client, as everyone will have someone to turn to in order to help make their own personal and unique dreams come true.

While it may seem as though there are certain “trends” that are making some more successful than others, I maintain the humble opinion that longevity comes with working to create unique, timeless designs that showcase the vision of an artist and captures not only the essence of what the client wants, but that extra something special that only you, as the artist, can give them. After all, that is why they have chosen and trusted you.

Though not always wrapped in accolades, different is really just a synonym for unique which also means exclusive, unsurpassed, and individual, all of which you are.

Question:When was the last time you dared to be different while feeling pressured to conform?
