Dear Readers:
One thing I have learned throughout my career is that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are in your career, we all have days when we worry that we cannot achieve our greatest goals, have taken on too much or don’t have what it takes to overcome the challenges in front of us. One of the things I like to do is to keep a list near my desk to remind me to keep going using the same language I would if speaking to a friend or colleague I cared about and believed in. Today, I would like to share this list with all of you.
1. It’s not where you are today, but where you see yourself that matters. Stay focused on your end-goal and don’t forget the big picture.
2. You’ll never know if you could have achieved it if you don’t try. If you don’t, that’s OK, you’ll still walk away having learned a lesson and a little braver.
3. There is no such thing as a true and lasting “overnight success”. No great thing is created suddenly. Life is a one-day-at-a-time kind of thing.
4. The worst that can happen is that you will need to try again.
5. Starting is the most important thing and everyone starts somewhere.
6. The only thing that is impossible is what you don’t try to achieve.
7. Sometimes the most ordinary things can become extraordinary with a little vision and a few tweaks.
8. If you don’t dream, you give up on yourself before even trying.
9. Nobody said it would be easy. If it were easy, everyone would do it.
10. Just when the caterpillar thinks life is over, it becomes a butterfly.
11. You are worth the effort and time and sacrifices.
12. Every day is equal to another chance.
13. Perfection is a state-of-mind.
14. Hardships tend to occur right before success.
15. You knew there would be obstacles, now know you can overcome them gracefully.
16. If you give up on yourself everyone else will, too.
17. Fear will cloud your mind if you allow it to.
18. Failure is not an option; it’s a stepping-stone.
19. You can choose to doubt yourself or choose to believe in yourself. You choose your mantras.
20. You will become what you expect yourself to be.
21. If you do nothing, you change nothing.
22. Look up the backstories of Thomas Edison and Lincoln. Imagine if they had quit.
23. Think should, could, would and you’ll start thinking did.
24. There are people who believe in you.
25. I am one of those people.
