I love hearing each person’s story. Tell us, when did you discover that working in events was your passion?
Since my childhood years, I have found all forms of art to be inspiring. I have always loved experimenting with various textures, colors and shapes to create distinct looks, whether it was about making a fashion statement or a bold home decor installation. Watching Preston Bailey’s appearance on Opera’s show displaying the gigantic floral chandeliers with very fine details, however, pulled that hidden passion for design out of me. Since then, I have been following my passion of turning the dreams of my clients into reality.
What did you do beforehand?
I worked as a freelance designer for fashion boutiques in Austin, Texas. I had to take a break because my little one needed me most. Later, I got opportunity to work for the Interior Design firm as a floral designer where I learned the true essence of art and, most importantly, how to reinvent yourself by putting your creative side out in the open.
Tell us about your biggest event success.
The wedding at Hyatt, Cincinnati back in 2004 was one of my biggest successes. The couple had desired a woodsy look, with a touch of sophistication for their wedding ceremony. The gazebo in which the ceremony took place had a ceiling decorated with a rainbow mosaic, and during the ceremony, rays of sunlight shone through colorfully, right above the bride and groom! It was incredibly romantic! That wedding overall was filled with many tiny details that really added a magical quality to the atmosphere.
I believe that each of us have something unique and special to offer clients; what do you feel sets you apart?
I would say my dedication to compassion has greatly helped me connect with my client’s vision and allowed me to create the wedding that truly reflects their dreams. Another valuable attribute that sets me apart is my ability to adapt and challenge myself to design outside of the box.
Working in events is often a full time job, especially when you are committed to your clients. How do you find that balance between your personal and professional life?
I think keeping myself focused with a little self discipline here and there is what keeps me going. I have drawn a line when it comes to personal and professional life, as I prefer not to mix the two. Although balancing the two is challenging, it gives me gives contentment knowing that I can equally divide my attention and commitment between both aspects of my life.
Finally, describe the event of your dreams. What is the budget, theme, location?
I believe that allowing oneself to indulge in the joy of creating something unique is the greatest gift of all. With that said, my dream event would be an elegant elephant wedding theme in Jaipur. Just to give you a glimpse: I dream of two gigantic floral elephants grandiosely situated at the entrance of the outdoor celebration.
