Dear Readers:
As many of you know, I married my husband, Theo, in a midnight wedding atop the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day of this year.
Planning my own wedding was quite an experience. When it came to the cake, I knew there was only one person to turn to: my good friend (and cake genius), Sylvia Weinstock. I asked her if she’d do me the honor of making a cake for our special day, and to my delight, she said yes.
I know some may disagree with me (and please share if you do) but I have always believed that a cake is one of the most amazing elements of the wedding. Not only does it work as a statement piece; it is also a beautiful way to honor tradition (cake cutting), and delight the senses. After all, what sweet-lover doesn’t enjoy a delicious slice served after a meal?
When I sat down and spoke to Sylvia, I gave her only one suggestion: I wanted my cake to look like another floral statement. “What do you think?” I asked. She thought it was a great idea. The result was a stunning cake that most guests indeed thought were flowers.
Though Sylvia does most of my cakes when in close proximity (and if time allows), or when I’m traveling, I also like to use the best of the best. As we wind down our discussions about cakes this week, I’d like to ask all of you to share the name and website link of the best cake maker in your area. It is perfectly acceptable to list yourselves.
Blessings,
Preston
