Dear Readers,
Happy New Year!
With the storm here in New York, things were a little complicated, but I didn’t want to miss the chance to write all of you this week. Fortunately, Preston was kind enough to allow me to post today (I will be back to posting on Thursday’s next week).
First, I want to say that I hope you are all having a splendid start to the year and that your minds are all in the right place. I know a lot of you are in “resolution mode,” but I would like to make a suggestion: Let’s start 2014 by defining ourselves instead of our goals. Yes, that’s right. Instead of setting goals with the highest of expectations, let’s think about the way we think, behave, work, and live while paying close attention to our patterns and habits, the identity we give ourselves and how closely that resembles who we truly feel we are. Let’s acknowledge what we like about ourselves and the life we are living as well as the habits that lead us to the life we don’t want to experience, at all, or anymore.
Let us truly live every day, and do so consciously.
If you have not truly discovered who you really are, take some time to get to know him or her. Get to know more about what you like and don’t like, what matters to you most, and who you really want to have in your life. Give yourself a bit of time and space to find clarity. You’ll need this to create clear goals in the future. In order to do this, you must make room for clarity. You must make a commitment to focus on the good things and eliminate the things and people who hold you down, pull you back or contaminate your life with unnecessary negativity.
There is a power in being authentic, in being you, and in defending that person and the values you stand for. I have said it many times; happiness is a choice. We simply must choose not to settle for anything less. We mustn’t leave room for a sense of entitlement nor should we allow any setbacks or naysayers to stop us from dreaming big.
All things are possible when you believe, when you do the hard work, when you take action, but above all when you operate from the heart.
Here’s to a very happy 2014!
How do you define yourself?
