Dear Preston:

I just got married and I am pleased to say that my wedding was the happiest day of my life.  I hired a great caterer, loved my band, and my dream dress was made by Reem Acra; I absolutely loved it!I My florist did a good job with one exception: my bridal bouquet.

Let me explain. Prior to my engagement, I came upon a beautiful bouquet entirely designed with white peonies.  I had since dreamt of of carrying  a similar bouquet as I walked down the aisle at my own wedding. Upon my initial meeting with my florist,  this was the first thing I showed him.  We discussed specifics and he placed the order. On the day of my wedding, I received a call from his office informing me that the peonies they had ordered had not arrived and I would be carrying a rosé bouquet instead. I did not let this ruin my day, but I was disappointed nonetheless. He did a beautiful job with my wedding and I am happy to pay him for everything but the bouquet.  He is not happy.

First, I am thrilled that you enjoyed that feeling of happiness on your wedding day in spite of the hiccup. I truly believe that nothing beats that special thrill of waking up and marrying your partner surrounded by your loved ones at a beautiful event.  What I do not understand is why you are allowing the situation with the peonies–something that was entirely out of your florists control–to linger and create bad feelings between you.  Trust me when I tell you that it is no fun to be in the florists place; I have been there. This is the reason I placed a clause in my contract that I cannot guarantee certain flowers.  The truth is that the flower market can be unpredictable and I am certain your florist was even more upset having to disappoint you. In the spirit of love, I encourage you to reach down into the heart of your generous spirit and pay the florist for the work he did for your wedding and for the bouquet he made for you with the best intentions of saving your day in an unfortunate situation.
