On March 31st I was very touched and lucky to be the guest of honor at the stunning launch party for the annual wedding edition of Clara Magazine Indonesia, Clara Love. The party was held at The Edge, which is a private villa in Bali on a cliff overlooking the ocean. And, yes, it was just as incredible as it sounds!

Clara’s editor-in-chief is the wonderful and talented Virginia Rusli, who arranged for me and my partner, Theo Bleckmann, to stay at the glorious Four Seasons Resort in Bali. (That’s me and Virginia above.)

Theo and I were pampered decadently, and it was such a special treat, because it’s rare we get to travel together. It also gave us a chance to celebrate Theo’s new CD and spend some time together before he had to fly home for his sold-out concert on April 7th at New York City’s Highline Ballroom.

Our time in Bali was amazing, but the launch party for Clara Love was, appropriately, the best part. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming, and the event was designed and choreographed beautifully — everything was done just right. I also got to see my great friend, the wildly talented designer Biyan, who dressed me for the party with pieces from his fantastic men’s wear collection.

One of the things I love about Clara Magazine is that it’s unique yet accessible. Each page reads like the personal notebook of your best friend who just happens to have a flawless eye for fashion, design and style. And the annual wedding issue is no exception — it’s elegant and inspirational, and I found myself nodding enthusiastically every time I looked at it.

Fashion and design publishing has changed a lot with the advent of the internet, but I’m thrilled that magazines continue to play such a major role in our industry. There’s nothing like being able to pick up a magazine and experience its’ editorial eye and vision cover to cover.

A good issue of a magazine has a unique perspective, tells a compelling and cohesive story and tackles the big picture — something I think is harder to do on a blog with a series of short posts. Not that I don’t love my blogs (you know I do!), but I was so happy to have the opportunity to celebrate a really great magazine.
