Dear Readers:
I am often asked for tips on how to stay inspired. My best advice is this: if you want to be inspired, look around the world and change the way you see them in your mind’s eye. By remaining curious and open, we are able to expand our reality and even transform it in the process. Take a look at the photo above. The artist, Lynn Chadwick, looked at a simple autumn leaf and saw a red lip. I find this image to be very powerful in its simplicity.
Inspiration comes from the most unexpected places when you are present in your environment. I am fortunate that my office is within walking distance of my home in Manhattan. Most mornings I walk to work and enjoy a playful game of challenging myself to discover a detail I have never seen before. This could be a new sign that I never noticed on the thousands of times I walked past it or a new bloom in the park. Sometimes, it is as simple as noticing unfamiliar faces as they hurry through the busy streets of the city. This particular game is always interesting and a lot of fun. Some faces are fretting, others angry, and of course, being the romantic I am, there are my favorite faces; those of lovers who walk with the face that tells the world that they are in love (or received a good loving the night before).
In today’s blog, I would like to share a few of my favorite quotes relating to inspiration and creativity.
Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvelous. – Bill Moyers
Creativity is not the finding of a thing, but in the making something out of it after it is found. – James Russell Lowell
Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes, art is knowing which ones to keep. – Scott Adams
I go wherever my creativity takes me. – Lil Wayne
Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way. – Edward de Bono
The chief enemy of creativity is ‘good’ sense. – Pablo Picasso
Please tell me which of these quotes you most relate to or share one you’d like for us all to know. Also, tell us where you find your inspiration.
Blessings,
Preston
