Dear Readers,
Those who work in the service industry know that it is not as glamorous and easy as it seems, however, it can certainly be extremely rewarding. For the most part, those of us in it are passionate about what we do and truly love it. I still haven’t met a colleague that feels differently. As planners, we constantly worry about getting it right, pleasing our clients and making sure that things go as scheduled. What happens when things don’t go as anticipated? Are you prepared mentally and physically to handle this situation?
As you struggle with keeping it all together and maintaining your sanity, please keep in mind these three tips that have worked for me:
Always Be Prepared
There are times when you are able to read clients perfectly; so much so that you can almost bet on what their next request is going to be. Other times its not that easy. Be prepared to do what it takes to make it work. Work through the challenges with logic not panic. Don’t allow your abilities to be impaired by feelings of fear or insecurity.
Always Be Honest
As you encounter challenges allow yourself to evaluate your process. Learn from your mistakes. Put your ego, pride, or feelings aside. By doing this, you will automatically set yourself up for becoming better rather than bitter.
Always Be Yourself
We are all born with our own light. Some shine brighter than others but that doesn’t mean that can’t change. Own YOUR light regardless. If it’s bright, continue to polish it and guard it by continually evaluating yourself. Embrace your imperfections. If your light is dim don’t be disappointed. Time will be your best teacher. Whatever you do, don’t be envious of someone else’s ability to shine. The time spent on that will diminish yours. Just be happy.
